Chapter II

Negroni

The Negroni cocktail has a rich history that dates back to the early 20th century in Italy.

It is said that Count Camillo Negroni, a wealthy and well-traveled Italian aristocrat, was the one who first requested that his bartender at the Caffè Casoni in Florence add gin to his favorite cocktail, the Americano, in 1919. The addition of gin gave the drink an extra kick and a more complex flavor profile, and the Negroni was born.

The Negroni is so popular that there is an entire week dedicated to celebrating it, called Negroni Week, which takes place annually in June.

The cocktail quickly became popular in Italy, and eventually made its way to the United States during the 1940s. It has since become a staple in bars around the world, with variations that include different types of gin, vermouth, and bitters. The Negroni's simplicity, versatility, and delicious taste have made it a beloved classic that is still enjoyed by cocktail enthusiasts today.
